• Brush off those board games that have been collecting dust on the shelf. Games are a wonderful way for children to learn and have fun at the same time.
• Increase physical activity. We’ve been experiencing a mild winter. Put those snow clothes to good use and get outside. Take a walk around the neighborhood, go sledding or skating. The additional physical activity lessens the amount of time watching TV. The entire family benefits from old-fashioned fresh air and exercise.

• Spend “floor time” with your child. This simply means you sit on the floor and let your child direct the activity. For parents it is difficult not to say, “Let’s use the blocks to build a garage.”
Instead, keep quiet and simply respond to your child. Braid doll hair, race cars under the table or color. The point is to give your child undivided attention doing what they want.
• Register for an Early Childhood Family Education or Community Education class. We have a new, exciting selection of classes that are sure to “cure the winter blues.” Call 643-6822 or visit our Web site at www.breckenridge.k12.mn.us.
