Seven area schools in Breckenridge’s speech subsection participated, as did two other area schools, Underwood and Fergus Falls. Overall, 176 students grades 7-12 competed in the meet.
Of Breckenridge’s 34 awards, including two duo teams, there were eight first places, six seconds, six thirds, four fourths, four fifths and four sixth places.

• Informative: Laura Radig, second and Michelle Kressin, sixth.
• Original oratory: Ashlynn Bahr, second and Katie Chapman, fourth.
• Poetry: Natalie Wiertzema, third and Jessica Moen, fifth.
• Prose: Alixandra Johnson, second; Karmen Clark, third and Amber Mattis, sixth.
• Storytelling: Zack Rittenhouse, second and Emma Bellmore, third.
