Megan Groen became the ninth All-American in North Dakota State College of Science women's basketball history when she was named to the third team recently.

The sophomore guard is the first Lady Wildcats player to be named to the All-American team since Jena Giller and Jana Momoh received the honors in 2007.

"The hard work that Megan put into her game last summer and into this year showed with marked improvement," Lady Wildcats head coach Paulette Stein said. "Megan went from a part-time, sometimes starter as a freshman to a sure thing in her sophomore year."

The 5-foot, 8-inch sophomore from Danube, Minn., averaged 20.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this year for the Lady Wildcats.

Groen also shot 46.4 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the 3-point line for the Lady Wildcats. She finished her sophomore season with 624 points, 122 total rebounds and was the team's co-leader with 80 steals on the year.

Groen is being recruited by a number of colleges from around the country and has not decided where she wants to play next year.

"What I really like about Megan and what sets her apart from other shooting guards is that she can shoot outside and she can also drive to the basket," coach Stein said. "She sees the court well and plays accordingly. She sets up her teammates well."
