The Breckenridge Public Library invites all to view its "Windows to the World" on Aug. 2.

To honor its new energy-efficient windows, the Breckenridge Public Library is holding an open house from 4-8 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

"(The open house) is also to show our appreciation to the community for their patience and understanding during construction," said Nanci Tobias, library supervisor. "Not only for the noise and mess, but also the times we were closed."

The library closed twice since the $35,000 construction project began on June 2.

Residents can also catch a better glimpse of the carved panels on the building, she said.

"A lot of people never noticed it before because it blended in with the building," she said. "Now, they just pop. It's a very unique architectural detail."

An invitation is also being extended to the City Council to thank them for funding the project, she said.

The city applied for a federal grant to help cover the cost of the library project but was refused because under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the city hall building is not entirely handicapped accessible. As the city would only receive 35 percent of the grant, capital improvement funds were tapped instead said Bev Wilson, city clerk treasurer.

The project has been a long time coming - the city has spent several years trying to save money for it, said Wilson.

"We were able to include it in our budget, and we have to keep up our facilities," she said.

Upcoming events at the library include a children's beach party Aug. 10 with relay races on the lawn, a lock-in on Aug. 17 with movies, Wii games and prizes, and an Aug. 5 trip for teens to see the Fargo-Moorhead Community Theater performance of the new musical "13."
