Auditions for the North Dakota State College of Science musical "The Wedding Singer," based off the hit movie of the same name, will be held Sept. 8.

Tony Reinfeld, director, said youth 16 and older are preferred for the 25-member cast.

"It's all ages," he said. "The main characters are in their early 30s, late 20s...but we could use a variety of people for the chorus."

For the auditions, actors must perform a one minute comedic monologue and sing 16 bars of music, and both must be memorized. Actors can bring their own accompaniment such as a pianist or a CD with no vocals if needed, he said.

For the dancing portion, students will be taught steps by a dance captain and reenact what they've learned in front of directors.

Although the auditions may sound tough, Reinfeld stresses they're not seeking perfection.

"We're essentially looking for potential," he said. "Perfection in art is really hard to find. We want people to come in and present their best but realize they have room for improvement - that's why we're here to help them become better."

Auditions are open to the public, but NDSCS students will get preference for roles. Parents of youth under 18 must sign a release form. Rehearsals begin on Sept. 13 and will last roughly eight weeks.

"The Wedding Singer" will be performed Nov. 11-14. Dean Aamodt, Wahpeton vocal music instructor, will direct the music.
