The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy announced Wilkin County was one of 169 grant recipients nationwide. Minnesota counties Renville, Steele and Goodhue also received the grant, as did the North Dakota city of Dickinson.
For its first five-year grant, ATOD focused on building up the coalition's knowledge base and looked at environmental strategies related to drugs, such as the county's social host ordinance, said Brenda Woytassek, ATOD coordinator.

The new shift will highlight the Project Northland curriculum and the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, as well as other positive youth alternatives.
But the first year of the grant requires the coalition to match $125,000 in funding, and the amount only grows - by the fourth and fifth year, it must match $187,000 per year.
"It's a lot of commitment by the communities," said Woytassek. "The fact that coalition members are on board, I think speaks very highly of the county as a whole."
