Visitors who stop by Valley Lake Boys Home on Sept. 11 will get a tour from the residents themselves. Updated rooms will be on display featuring the new curtains, carpeting and white boards the facility acquired from its fundraiser.
"People can come out and see what we're all about," said Karla Littke, assistant director.

"We have quite a large lawn, and many of the greenhouses in town have donated flowers to us," she said. "Our yard is absolutely beautiful with the flowers the boys planted."
Past fears of the facility's potential shutdown have since been tempered by the fact that it's "rebounded," said Littke. Eleven boys are now staying at the home, which holds up to 14 boys aged 12-18. Boys attended the first day of school Tuesday in Breckenridge.
Littke said Valley Lake Boys Home is a first stop for young boys who might be starting on the wrong path.
"When a boy is released, we know he's going to be an asset to his community," she said.
Eleven Valley Lake boys will participate in the Headwaters Day parade, and an open house will be held at the facility from 1-4 p.m. Refreshments will also be served.
