The grant will be used to remove all of the landscaping of the building's sides, then waterproof the walls and reinstall the landscaping, said Head Librarian Bonnie MacIver.
"One of the walls in the children's area is starting to crumble, come off," said MacIver. "There's moisture all over."

Work on the building's exterior can't begin until spring 2011. However, this will allow ample time for taking care of any preliminary studies and preparations for the project, including consulting with an architect. The project must be completed by September 2011.
"The actual doing it won't take a whole long time," said MacIver. "What we're thinking we maybe would like to do is landscape the whole lawn. It needs some work done."
The $15,000 amount is the maximum an applicant could receive. More than $100,000 in grant money was given out this year, said MacIver. The application of the grant money is being coordinated by Public Works Director Randy Nelson.
This is the third time MacIver had submitted the grant and "the third time was the charm," she said.
"We were lucky this year," she said. "There's a lot of historical buildings that are wanting the grant money and (the historical society) only has so much money to give out."
