Gordon “Gordy” Knapp, 73, rural Ottertail, Minn., formerly of Foxhome, Minn., died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at his residence.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Fergus Falls with the Rev. Mark Hume officiating. Interment is at Oak Grove Cemetery of Fergus Falls.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 at the church and one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
Gordy was born April 12, 1939 in Fergus Falls, the son of Charles Harry and Gertrude Thelma (Duenow) Knapp. Gordie attended rural grade school in Andrea Township and completed eighth grade at Foxhome Elementary School. In 1957 he graduated from Morris Agricultural High School.
From 1957 to 1963 he served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.
On Oct. 10, 1958 he married Rosalie K. Payne at Grace United Methodist Church of Fergus Falls. They are the parents of three children, Julie, Thomas and Kristine. The couple resided in rural Foxhome where they owned and operated Knapp Seed Farm Incorporated since 1962 and were grain farmers. After retirement, the couple built a home on Otter Tail Lake.
He was a member of Foxhome Lutheran Church and the First Church of the Nazarene. Currently, Gordy attended Living The Word Bible Fellowship in Battle Lake, Minn. Gordie was active in the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association and served as Wilkin County King Agassiz.
His hobbies included traveling to various states to enjoy sports car racing. He also owned an airplane and was an aviator for 15 years. Gordie enjoyed building and remodeling homes. He dearly loved his family and brought much joy into their lives.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie, rural Ottertail; three children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Julie Kay (Mark) Olson, Jamestown, N.D., their children, Jeremiah (Becky) and their children, Naomi, Abigal, Lydia and Anna Marie; Michelle, Joshua (Sara) and Marissa, a son, Thomas (Lori) Knapp, Indianapolis, Ind., their children, Katherine and Charles Michael Thomas Knapp, daughter, Kristine (Ahmad) Ibrahim, Simi Valley, Calif., their children, Samie, Manal and Zakary; a brother, Dr. Gary B. (Emily) Knapp, Lexington, Ken.; a sister-in-law, Myrna Knapp (Bob) Safford; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, C. Harry and Gertrude; a brother, Gerald Knapp.
