John J. Lenz, 76, Logan, Iowa, formerly of Barney, N.D., died Feb. 3, 2012 at his home in Logan.
The funeral Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at St. James Catholic Church, Omaha, Neb. A private burial was held Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 at Calvary Cemetery, Omaha, next to his son, John Lenz Jr.
John was born July 18, 1935 at Barney to Leo and Anna (Lugert) Lenz. He attended rural school near Barney, and high school at St. Francis Academy, Hankinson, N.D., from which he graduated in 1952.
John married Cecelia Reinke Nov. 30, 1957. In January of 1958 they moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he worked construction. In 1961 they moved to Omaha, where he worked as a cement mason until his retirement.
John is survived by his wife, Cecelia, Logan; daughter, Jacinta (Chuck) Tietsort; brothers: Kenneth (Janet), Charles (Mary) and Joseph Lenz; sisters: Lois Dixon and Antoinette Mauch; a sister-in-law, Rosemarie Lenz; grandchildren: Shena (Ryan) Jenson and Adam and Josh Tietsort; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Anna Lenz; his son, John Jr.; brothers: Edmund, Roman, James and Eugene Lenz; and sisters, Margaret Heitkamp and Rosemary Forness.
