The summer was filled with a plethora of events at Chahinkapa Zoo.

What fun it was to share our education and conservation messages with the families who visited the zoo and those who participated in the classes, workshops and special events.

Fossa babies, new gibbons, animal training, and the campout were among the many memorable moments. However, my favorite event of the summer happened Aug. 17 when our troops came home.

By the time you read this, the welcome home party is over and the recognitions presented at a community party were held Saturday evening. It was an event that was meant to honor our troops, yet it was the rest of us who feel honored. We are honored to be allowed into your families’ lives while you were away. We are honored to fly our American flag, knowing that we are protected and free. We are honored to be in your presence and share in the celebration of your safe return. We are honored to remember our beloved soldiers who came home in the past, and we are especially honored to see you stand tall in your uniform.

Thank you for your service soldiers and families of the 188th North Dakota Army National Guard.

God bless you all.

Welcome to the discussion.
