The North Dakota State College of Science women’s basketball team used smothering defense and fresh legs to take a 75-24 blowout home win against Association Free Lutheran Bible School, Minn., Tuesday night.
“We did a really good job of coming out strong and playing defense with our feet,” NDSCS coach Paulette Stein said. “We were able to play five at a time without losing ground and that was important for us.”
Nearly everyone on the roster got at least 10 minutes of floor time for NDSCS, who outran short-staffed AFLBS. NDSCS outrebounded their opponents 52-27 and won the bench scoring battle 39-0.
The Lady Cats held AFLBS to only 12 points in each half and forced 30 turnovers. Nicole Rilla led the way for Science with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Tawny Irwin added 12 points and four steals and Bryann Guyton had 11 points with seven rebounds.
NDSCS (7-5) next plays on Dec. 5, hosting Ridgewater Community College, Minn.
