K-12 Health Summit planned
In partnership with WE CARE in Wilkin County, Minnesota, Breckenridge Public School District announces the first annual K-12 Health Summit for Richland and Wilkin county schools.
The K-12 Health Summit will occur on Mon. Nov. 25 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Wilkin County Recycling Center in Breckenridge, Minnesota. More meetings may follow.
The purpose of this summit is to invite K-12 health and PE teachers, counselors and other educational leaders in Richland and Wilkin counties to discuss ways we can “swim upstream” in educating youth, parents and community about health topics in our communities.
Registration is free. The participating district will need to pay for the sub-cost of the participant. Eligible schools are Breckenridge, Campbell-Tintah, Rothsay and St. Mary’s in Minnesota, and Fairmount, Hankinson, Lidgerwood, Richland, Wahpeton and Wyndmere in North Dakota.
Please RSVP to Craig Peterson at firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday, Nov. 20.
ND scholarship essay contest
In spring of 2020, North Dakota Mensa will award a $500 scholarship and the Mensa Foundation will award a $600 scholarship, both to North Dakota residents. These two scholarships are guaranteed to go to North Dakota students. However, Mensa offers a wide variety of specialized scholarships.
Last year a North Dakota student was awarded the regional scholarship covering an eight-state Midwest region, so three North Dakota students won Mensa scholarships. The 2020 Mensa scholarship contest is open to all North Dakota residents who are enrolled in a U.S. college or university in the academic year following the award (Fall 2020). Applicants must write 550-word essays that describe their educational and/or career goals.
Winners are selected based on these essays and Mensa Foundation judging criterion. The Foundation’s college scholarship program bases its awards totally on essays written by the applicants. Consideration is not given to grades, academic program, or financial need. Mensa membership is not required, nor is it relevant.
The scholarship application process is open now and closes January 15, 2020.
