We have received many wonderful photos of veterans this week and are sharing more here today. Thank you all for your service, and thank you to their loved ones who shared these photos and stories with us.
Pictured, Dawn Samuels shared this photo of her son, Cpl Christopher Samuels, while he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2013 with the USMC. She wrote, ‘It was the first time I got to see his face after he was deployed and there’s no way I can express with words how much it meant to me to get this picture. Deployment is hard on families and it is the small things, like a photograph, that can make such a difference. Chris is a 2009 graduate of Wahpeton HS and was in the USMC for 5 years immediately following graduation.’
This is Jerry (Jerome) Richels, who served in the Army in Europe and is a Bronze Star recipient. Karen Werner, St. Louis Park, Minnesota, shared this photo and wrote, ‘Jerry was a very humble man and I never knew about his Bronze Star award until just this past year. Jerry was my husband, Jim’s, stepdad.’
Mary Pratt, Breckenridge, Minnesota, shared this photo of her husband, MSgt Kelly D. Pratt, retired. He was selected as Veteran of the Day at Disney World.
Karen Werner submitted this photo of her husband’s stepfather, Jerry Richels and his brother, Hienie (George) Richels, from Wahpeton. Jerry served in the Army in Europe and Hienie served in the U.S. Navy. Both men raised their families in Wahpeton.
