Wahpeton Senior High School is proud to announce the top-graduating seniors for the 2018/2019 school year. Valedictorian is Paige Mennis, daughter of Brian Mennis, Wahpeton and Lyle and Karlene Ellingson of Mooreton, North Dakota. Our Salutatorian is Carleigh Zarak, daughter of Mark and Missy Zarak of Wahpeton.
Paige Mennis is a person who has taken every opportunity she had to learn as much as possible, both academically and personally. She has challenged herself by taking as many advanced courses at Wahpeton Senior High and at North Dakota State College of Science. Her high school activities included; tennis, which she was selected most improved, hardest worker and team captain in her senior year and volleyball, where she was awarded the Huskie award and most assists.
Her love of music is shown by her participation in Encore, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Girls’ Choir. Paige was also nominated to serve on Student Council, Peer Mentoring, and the Tri-College Mathlete team. She attended the ND Girls State last summer in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and was recently inducted into the North Dakota Association of Honor Society.
During the summer months she has enjoyed working as a Bible Camp Counselor at Drake, North Dakota, as a Five-Day Club Teacher at the Child Evangelism Fellowship in Jamestown, North Dakota, and volunteers regularly at her church in Wahpeton. Paige’s future plans are to attend North Dakota State University and pursue a degree in the financial industry.
Carleigh Zarak has been very involved with volleyball throughout her high school years. She received the JV Most Valuable Player award and was selected to be a captain her senior year. She enjoys participating in Encore, Chamber Choir, Concert Choir and Girls’ Choir along with performing with the Just For Kix Dance team.
Underclassmen look up to Carleigh as she is always willing to help tutor or mentor them as she was selected to be a Peer Mentor. Carleigh’s knowledge did not go unnoticed as she was chosen to the Tri-College Mathlete team, the Academic Olympics team and was recently inducted into the North Dakota Association of Honor Society.
Volunteering was important to her as she helped at the Richland County Food Pantry, the Richland County Health Department Project Y.E.S Coalition (Youth Empowered for Success) and also taught Vacation Bible School at St. John’s Church. Carleigh has been employed with Wahpeton Parks and Rec. Dept. with coaching youth volleyball on basic skills and techniques.
She has always been interested in the medical field where she is working at CHI St. Francis Nursing home as a caregiver assistant. Carleigh’s future plans are to attend Concordia College to major in Biology with a minor in Spanish, she will then continue with Pre Med.
