MAKING OUR WAY.  While we’ll still have some breeze, we’re making our way out from the back of this weekend’s weather and before you know it, we’ll have a few perfect days for the outdoors!  We talk about the finalizing forecast, a change in tactics it may require for pheasants and a fun upland shirt in today’s Outdoors Roundup.

OUTDOORS ROUNDUP:

WINTER IS COMING.  The forecast is getting more and more in line for a fall off the face of the earth on Wednesday night.  Models seem to suggest 5 inches of snow by Friday morning, just in time to make travel to pheasant country difficult.

EARLY LATE SEASON.  If the forecast holds, consider targeting those areas of deeper cover – cattails, brushlines, draws and other well-protected areas where pheasants will bunker down from the storm.  Walk quietly and limit conversation, and while it’s tempting, especially early season – hold off on the shouts of “ROOSTER!”

EDGY OUTFIT.  The Ruffed Grouse Society has a special membership spiff this season, looking to capture the eyes of perhaps a younger generation of conservationists with its “UPLAND AF” t-shirt.  You can break out the urban dictionary to see what “AF” means – they say it’s “Awesome Forests.” We’re not buying it, but we might buy the shirt!
