Whether they were red, white, blue or somewhere else on the rainbow, the colors lighting up the Twin Towns Area’s sky shortly after dark Thursday, July 4 were vivid.
The annual Wahpeton vs. Breckenridge American Legion baseball game brought a crowd of sports fans out to John Randall Field, Wahpeton. Whether in Chahinkapa Park or farther in the community, residents could see and hear the fireworks finale.
Numerous volunteers participated in the holiday festivities. They include area veterans who displayed the American flag prior to the game, as well as members of the Australia-bound Wahpeton Lady Huskies.
The youth athletes are set to represent North Dakota and the United States beginning Sunday, July 14. They will participate in the 31st Annual Down Under Sport Tournament.
“Today we celebrate the birth of a nation built on a foundation of freedom and grounded in the unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” stated Gov. Doug Burgum, R-N.D.
The governor called attention to the Declaration of Independence signers and all courageous military members.
“For their service, First Lady Kathryn and I join citizens celebrating across our state today in expressing our endless gratitude,” Burgum continued. “We wish all North Dakotans a joyous and safe Independence Day.”
