Leeroy Anderson, 66, of Vandais Heights, Minnesota, was charged in Wilkin County District Court on June 11 with seven felonies, three misdemeanors and two petty misdemeanor counts relating to events occurring in the county on June 8.

The felony charges include certain persons not to possess firearms, marijuana and controlled substance taxation, receiving/possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, receiving/possessing a firearm with no serial number, possessing an acts prohibited machine gun or short barreled shotgun, receiving stolen property and fifth degree possession of a not small amount of marijuana. The misdemeanor counts include operating a vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, possessing hypodermic syringes or needles and not having a Minnesota driver’s license. Petty misdemeanor charges include possessing a small amount of marijuana and possessing drug paraphernalia.

According to the criminal complaint, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper was traveling westbound on Minnesota Hwy 108 when he observed a Chevrolet Camaro parked on the shoulder of an onramp to Interstate 94 at approximately 10 p.m. June 8. The trooper saw a man with long gray hair in the driver’s seat who was leaning out the window. He appeared disoriented, the complaint states. The man’s speech was heavily slurred, eyes bloodshot and pupils were constricted. The trooper reported seeing several injection sites on the man’s arms.

After administering several tests, many of which Anderson failed, the trooper arrested him for driving while impaired and searched the vehicle, the complaint states.

The trooper discovered approximately 8 grams of meth, marijuana and marijuana seeds in the vehicle as well as four guns. The guns included two rifles, one of which had been reported stolen, a sawed off shotgun with the serial number removed, and a shotgun, the complaint states.

Custody of Anderson was transferred to the Wilkin County Jail early in the morning on June 9.

A search of court records shows he was convicted of third degree possession of cocaine/heroin/methamphetamine in 2016 in Ramsey County, Minnesota. His 28-month prison sentence was stayed for five years and he was put on supervised probation for five years.

Anderson was also convicted in Ramsey County of manufacturing methamphetamine on Aug. 25, 2003 for an incident occurring in April 2003.
