Multiple funnel cloud sightings in Richland, Wilkin counties Wednesday

Multiple sightings of funnel clouds and rotations were reported around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13. The rotations started south of Wahpeton near Fairmount, North Dakota. When the storm was four miles from town, the tornado siren was activated.

Richland County Communications/911 tracked the storm as it headed northwest of town, and a funnel cloud was spotted forming above the Wahpeton Walmart. Funnel clouds were also spotted near CHI St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge, Minnesota, and Foxhome, Minnesota.

Richland County Communications/911 reported several funnels touched down in between Breckenridge and Rothsay, Minnesota, headed north.

Another rotation headed northwest of Wahpeton was reported to have passed Abercrombie, North Dakota, around 5:20 p.m. at which point Richland County law enforcement stopped tracking the storm. Share photos to audraa@wahpetondailynews.com.
