is the season! The community tree lighting was a great success last week, as we had good attendance, good music, good treats, and good fun. And how about that tree! I’d like to thank Hills 210 Café & Subs for donating the cookies and hot chocolate, it’s very much appreciated. And thanks to the Wahpeton High School choir members, and their director Mr. Aamodt, for the music. They added tremendous spirit to the event.

Don’t forget about Holiday Lane at Chahinkapa, open every night through December 31.

And remember to shop our local businesses this holiday season (and all year ‘round). Let’s keep our community vibrant. We all work together to make Wahpeton all that it is.

As we get closer to 2019, and the Sesquicentennial celebration, I want to mention a few things.

First, you’ll soon be able to browse old newspapers dating back to the early 1900s. “Pages Ago” will open on January 8, 2019 at 521 Dakota Avenue (formerly The Frame Shop). Enter at the west side on Sixth Street. “Pages Ago” will have memories galore as you work your way through stories, pictures, ads, and more from Wahpeton’s history. It’ll be open from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through 2019.

You can share a story for the memory wall, or email your story to pagesago.wahp@gmail.com. There will also be items to purchase, such as the city history book being produced for the 150th, and more. “Pages Ago” is sponsored by the Sesquicentennial Committee, the Richland County Historical Museum, and community volunteers.

So, here’s an updated list of events for “Winter Wonderland,” the first celebration weekend in 2019, February 1-2:

The kickoff will be a community Super Bowl mixer, with a live stream of Tal’s Super Bowl pick, the evening of Thursday, January 31.
