“There’s a party goin’ on right here

A celebration to last throughout the years

So bring your good times, and your laughter, too

We gonna celebrate your party with you”

Kool and the Gang got it right as 2019 promises to be a year of celebrations at the zoo!

On April 12-13, from 7 a.m.-1 p.m., we are kicking off a pre-Earth Day recognition. We have partnered with Dakota Coffee for our annual membership drive. Stop in and have your favorite signature cup with at a discount when you purchase your membership on site.

The annual Clean Up Day at the zoo is also on April 13. Starting at 8 a.m. and continuing throughout the afternoon, you can get a sneak peek of the season just by helping rake, clean and lending a hand for special projects.

Opening day at the zoo is Saturday, April 27. The Wildcat Singers and Jazz Band will be here to celebrate our season opener. What a great way to bring in the 2019 season! They will perform on zoo grounds from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The zoo hours are 10 a.m. — 4 p.m.

Beginning Mothers Day weekend, the zoo hours will change to 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with the “Gotcha Party!” We will celebrate the one year anniversary of our precious white rhinos, Gideon and Gunner! We “gotcha” one year ago. Watch for specials in our gift and food.

Also on Mother’s Day is the annual M.O.M. Campaign educating about the perils of Missing Orangutan Moms and raising awareness about the palm oil crisis. We are thankful for Tal being at Chahinkapa Zoo as a national spokes-orangutan.

Blue Goose Days will be big. Combining the event of the year with the 150th Anniversary of Wahpeton you will not want to miss June 1-2!

Stick around folks, there’s a party going on right here!

Kathy Diekman, director of Chahinkapa Zoo in Wahpeton
