Saturday, April 27 is our opening day of the 2019 Chahinkapa Zoo season.
We are welcoming the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcat Singers and Jazz Band. I’m thanking Bryan Poyzer, Director of Choral Activities and Program Coordinator of the Performing Arts at NDSCS and all the musicians gracing the zoo with their talent,
This season promises to be spectacular with your favorite wild friends and activities. Our early season hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Beginning Saturday, May 11, our hours extend to 7 p.m. The Prairie Rose Carousel operates weekends in May from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and by appointment for school groups. Starting Memorial Day, the carousel will be open daily from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
Chahinkapa Zoo is fortunate to be located in beautiful Chahinkapa Park. A clean and green environment offering visitors a look into the world of wildlife, the zoo and carousel welcome over 70,000 visitors annually! Over 90 percent are tourists to our beautiful community!
The zoo’s mission of conservation and education are of the utmost importance, but we cannot underestimate the economic value it brings to the Twin Towns. In case this significance is lost on some, we are happy to offer the data as we are required to keep records for the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums), the Chahinkapa Zoo Association, Wahpeton Park Board and the North Dakota Tourism Department.
We eagerly promote our local businesses by recommending restaurants, service stations and retail stores. We are proud of our community, its amenities, all around ambiance and good people.
