Dotzenrod delivers and honors North Dakota’s rich history by pushing legislation that supports producers and investments in our often forgotten rural communities.
After a rough winter, farmers, rightfully have enough to worry about. A farmer himself, Senator Dotzenrod introduced and passed a bill updating the farm home tax exemption to meet the needs of today’s farmers. This law changes the definition of farm income for purposes of the farm residence property tax exemption from net to gross, and it removes the dollar limitation for allowable non-farm income.
He also introduced and passed a study that looks at the distribution and transportation of food throughout the state. For some, the closest grocery store is over 30 minutes away. For senior citizens and people without transportation, that can be a big burden. This study will help address rural grocers, food pantries, and nutritional needs.
Senator Jim Dotzenrod recognizes the fact that North Dakota’s agriculture industry has been the state’s top economic driver. North Dakota’s family farms and ranches are feeding the world and will continue to do so for decades to come. Ensuring that our agriculture industry remains vibrant strengthens families and rural communities in our state.
